Functional Nutrition is More Than What We Eat
Our bodies work as an interconnected system, and that system is influenced by more than just what we eat. Many people are familiar with the gut-brain connection, but it goes deeper than that. Every organ and cell in our body is working together in a symphony—and when that symphony becomes disrupted, our bodies alert us with symptoms.
Nutrition plays a huge role in how our bodies function, but so does stress, our relationships, hydration, how we breathe, movement, creativity. I take all of this into consideration when I look at your full picture.
It’s More Than a Protocol
Most approaches to nutrition start with what to add or remove from your plate based on standard recommendations for a diagnosis or set of symptoms. What they miss is the foundation.
In functional nutrition, we look at what you’re eating, but more importantly we look at how your body is digesting, absorbing, and using that food. What the common approach also misses is understanding what led you to these symptoms, and equally important, what changes you’re capable of taking on at this point in time.
I look at not just your full history, but also your daily reality, your relationship with food, and your capacity. All of this shapes how I approach our work together. By tending to your body’s terrain first and moving at a pace that works for you, we give your body something real to build on, creating meaningful, lasting change.
Here’s How We Dig Deeper:
-
Your body doesn't operate in isolated parts, and symptoms don't just appear out of nowhere. Our digestion impacts everything from our energy and mood to our immune system and our skin.
In functional nutrition, we use the lens of systems biology to understand how all of the systems in your body are influencing each other. Through this view, we can work towards shifting your internal environment from the ground up, creating the optimal conditions for your body to function at its best.
-
You can have "normal" lab results and still feel terrible. Standard medicine is designed to look for a diagnosis and a treatment—and this is important, particularly for acute care. But functional nutrition asks a different question: not just what's not functioning, but why.
We investigate the subtle clues that have led to any dysfunction and work with a framework, not a protocol, to support what lies beneath that dysfunction.
-
I'll never just give you a handout. My role isn't just to guide you on what to eat, but to educate you on why your body is responding the way it is, so you can feel informed and empowered in your own care.
Healing isn't linear, and there may be weeks where things shift noticeably, and weeks where progress feels slower. This is an important part of the process because it gives us information.
Many people begin to notice something shifting within the first few weeks, but some things can take longer to address. I'll be honest with you about where we are and what I'm noticing, and we'll adjust as we go. This is a collaborative relationship, and ultimately you’re in the driver’s seat.
